post by Kristina Thomas

Recruiting is the core of our business. Our recruiters have an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for helping healthcare professionals secure and thrive during their travel nurse journey.

We sat down with a Rockstar Recruiter, Monique Wilkerson, to discuss her vast industry experience, advice for nurses, and some fun facts about herself! Keep reading to learn more.

Why did you decide on healthcare recruiting as your career?

I stumbled on the industry by accident. But once involved I realized this is one of the best ways to contribute to quality healthcare. Finding highly qualified candidates to take care of very sick patients and families. I have been in this industry for 17 years this September.

Tell us about your experience working with Vero RN.

I am one of the Founding Members. I left and now have returned. It is a great place to work.

What differentiates Vero RN and you as a recruiter?

One of the core standards is putting our nurses first. So, we deal with each nurse individually. We know there is no one size fits all approach to Healthcare staffing and supporting our travelers. What differentiates me from other recruiters, is I look at my role as an advisor. Most travelers have goals in mind, such as paying off bills, sending kids to college, retiring early, and seeing the world. I am lucky to be able to help them layout employment choices that help them reach those goals. I want to hear your fears and about your bad days. I want to know when you paid off the credit card bill or took that trip you worked hard for. I know to hit some of these goals you may need to work with some of my colleagues. No problem. I want all travelers to be successful.

What are the most exciting & challenging parts of healthcare? Helping undervalued healthcare workers.

In your opinion, what can a Travel Nurse do to land their dream assignment?

Be ready. Have all your paperwork ready. No unexplained gaps of employment. Cell numbers for references. Get references before you leave an assignment.

Do you have any other advice or words of encouragement for travel nurses?

Your concerns are real and your dedication to quality Healthcare is seen. Don’t give up the fight. Speak out. You are valued!

What things do you enjoy outside of work? Lounging in the pool and family time.

What’s your favorite travel destination? Hawaii. I love the clear ocean!

What is the most adventurous thing you've ever done? Once I drove to Vegas on a whim.

What’s a fun fact about yourself people may not know? I play the guitar.

What’s your favorite quote or motto you live by? Happiness is a choice
